Day 1~John and Dylan got into action this afternoon. WOW! We made good progress. My peas may have a new home before they know it. We still have to move the hay out. The window is going to be covered with new tin. The upper part of the shed that is open into the barn needs to be closed with tin pieces we have already cut. The area above the 2x4s has to be covered with chicken wire yet. A door is going to be built from a old storm door frame. It will be at the end of the existing 2x4 John is working on in the last picture. Before we are finished the lower part of the walls will have tin part way up.
Day 2~Bottom three pictures are what we did today. Not much progress since we had to repair fence to keep the cows in. Finished the chicken wire....went up with 2x4s for upper area. John and Dylan are getting the upper open areas ready to hang tin next week end. I moved about 10 bales of hay. :)
Several more days and we have closed the hole/window on the North wall, closed the eve in and closed the corner in. The higher part to the roof is taking shape and a door has been added. We are using mostly what we have laying around. This pen is going to look like "patch work" but it should do the trick, I HOPE! I have also been digging down on the inside and putting landscape timbers just below the wall to give a small amount more protection from digging under.
Dec. 29~the last day, we finished hanging the upper chicken wire, John made the storm door even stronger by adding 1x2 welded wire to the frame. We put two slide locks on the door. One was higher while the lower one is just high enough to prevent me from bending over. A landscape timber was sunk to built a roost using another small pole we had on hand. I gave them a large 5 gallon water bucket and used an old 4-wheeler rim to raise their feed to a higher level. I will see how well this will work.
The final step was taken Jan 4th when we put up tin around the bottom of the pen. It just gives an additional amount of protection from predator digging in through the bottom wire.
They are IN!
The peafowl were moved with care. I avoided getting "dirty" this time. :)
