I am a city girl with my roots in the country. And my "country" is Paradise, Paradise, Texas to be exact! I spent my summers at my grand parents farm, gathering eggs, feeding chickens and watching my Gramps milk the cows. I remember just how bad a chicken can smell when dipped in that boiling water just before being plucked! My early memories are of the sounds of dominoes being "shook" as the neighbors gathered for a Saturday night game of 42. Those really were the good ole days. I miss them just as I miss my grand parents but I hold all of this in my mind as priceless memories.
We gals here joke about GRIT....girls raised in Texas. I think we are a special breed. A true gal with GRIT has a real appreciation for the land and what it offers as well as the malls of the BIG cities and what they offer.
My small part of Paradise measures a mere 10 acres but is a wonderful get away after the work week in the city. Four cows, three emus, six pea fowl, 20 chickens, and 100+ guineas make up my critters. Thanks to a wonderful neighbor my farm is well tended while my husband and I work to feed the livestock.
I am the top hand while my husband is the foreman. We "LOVE" to share by entertaining family and friends. Our four grand kids, ranging in age from 2 to 10, enjoy spending time with us. Feeding the cows and fowl, hunting for guinea nests, watching as eggs hatch or taking a razoo around the property on the four wheelers keeps us busy.
Come back and visit this page often as I update the goings on in my little part of Paradise.
